Overview
About forged fittings
Forged fittings are machined from solid forgings rather than formed from pipe. The result is a thick, compact body suited to small-bore lines at high pressure: instrument and gauge connections, drains and vents, sampling points and branch connections from 1/8″ to 4″.
They are made to ASME B16.11 in two end types. Socket weld fittings take the pipe into a counterbored socket and are fillet-welded around the outside; they are rated Class 3000, 6000 and 9000. Threaded fittings carry tapered NPT or BSPP threads and are rated Class 2000, 3000 and 6000. The class is chosen to match the pipe schedule.
The range covers 90° and 45° elbows, street elbows, tees, crosses, full and half couplings, unions, reducers and reducer inserts, caps, plugs, bushings, swage and hex nipples, adapters and bosses, together with MSS SP-97 branch outlets (olets). Unions follow MSS SP-83 and swage nipples MSS SP-95.
Carbon steel parts are forged from ASTM A105N and stainless steel from ASTM A182 F304 and F316, with hot-dip galvanizing available for corrosive service. Dimensions for every size and class are in the dimension tables below.
