Piping components for petrochemical plants
Petrochemical process lines combine aggressive media with high pressure. Material selection carries more of the design margin here than wall thickness does.

The requirement
What petrochemical plants demand of a fitting
Chloride-bearing and acidic process streams put stainless grades at risk of stress corrosion cracking, which is why duplex and super duplex have become the default for much of this service. They also carry roughly double the yield strength of austenitic stainless, so a thinner wall does the same job.
That advantage disappears if the fitting is made or welded badly: duplex depends on a balanced ferrite-austenite microstructure that poor heat input destroys. Fittings for this service have to come from a manufacturer that understands the metallurgy, not just the dimensions.
Pressure classes climb accordingly. Forged fittings in Class 3000 and 6000 handle the small-bore and instrument connections where a socket weld or threaded joint is specified.
IllustrationWhere these components sit
- Olefin and aromatics process lines in duplex and super duplex
- High-pressure reactor and separator connections
- Small-bore instrument and sampling hookups in forged Class 3000 / 6000
- Caustic and acid transfer circuits
- Cooling water and utility headers in stainless
Specification points that matter here
- Duplex and super duplex require controlled heat input to preserve the ferrite-austenite balance
- Confirm PREN requirement where chloride concentration and temperature are both high
- Socket weld fittings to ASME B16.11 for small-bore; buttweld above 2″ NB
- Positive material identification (PMI) commonly specified at receipt
- Ring-type joint flanges where the pressure class and sealing duty demand it
Ranges for this sector
What we supply into it
The categories most often specified for this service. Every one carries the full range behind it.
- Buttweld FittingsButtweld elbows, bends, tees, reducers and caps welded end to end with the pipe, for a joint as strong as the pipe itself and a smooth, leak-free bore.View 14 products
- Forged FittingsSocket weld and threaded fittings machined from solid forgings, for strong, compact joints on small-bore, high-pressure lines such as drains, vents and gauge points.View 15 products
- FlangesFlanges that make a bolted, gasketed joint at equipment, valves and spool breaks, so a line can be opened again for isolation, inspection or replacement.View 22 products
